I stopped in there on my way to El Centro on a business trip in 1978.
I stopped because I knew I could find a CHP officer there.
On my way over from San Diego, about 8-miles west of Miller’s, I passed an older couple in a station wagon sitting in their car having taken, what they apparently thought, was a rest stop off-ramp.
It was actually a runaway truck sand pit.
The car was buried to the top of the hood with sand and above the door sills so I sought they could have bitten out on their own.
They were just sitting there, staring straight forward, with blank looks.
