July 2024 Photo of the Month: WND508

My July 2024 Photo of the Month is WND508, yet another photograph taken during the Summer Months at San Diego’s Windansea Beach.

The Summer months remain my least favorite.  In July, the predominant marine layer that provides cool temps to the outer coastal areas subsides.  That means temperatures jump 20 degrees and can be uncomfortable.  Without monsoonal weather to the East, getting good images during this time of year can be a challenge.

I often end up right back at Windansea Beach, which hasn’t been a Photo of the Month since last month.  But here we are again, with more angles to explore, changes in surf and tide, and other possibilities.

The morning is my preferred time to be here in the Summer.  The afternoon crowds can be quite crowded, and it is difficult to get a good image without 5 people in your frame.  In the morning, one person may walk past, and they may even stop to let you finish your shot before proceeding.  I like the early crowd better.

Timing the waves just right, I was able to get some mini-waterfall runoff on these sea stacks.  It took some experimentation to get to this combination that I liked.

I should mention that generally, I prefer the South end of Windansea.  Not all the way to the end near Palomar Avenue, but closed to Gravilla and Kolmar.  So if you notice I don’t include images of the surf shack, just know that I prefer to be further South.

Come August and September, we will get the totality of the monsoonal season.  Some years, it is quite active, and we get large cloud building late morning to early afternoon.  Other years, it is a dud, and it is nothing but sunny skies (my neighbors think this is good weather, I am not in agreement).

As always, thank you for viewing, and I hope you enjoyed the image.
