June 2020 has come and gone. It’s time to discuss my latest Photo of the Month, LM130, from my drive through the Laguna Mountains.
LM130 Background
Once again, I took just one real photo trip this month. It is so important to stay home right now, that I have only been getting out when conditions are truly ideal. This may not look ideal to you, but if you read my last blog post, you will know this is one in a series of Laguna Mountain images I created.
This style of contemplative image is not new to me. During marine layer season (known as May Gray or June Gloom), I have often enjoyed scenes like this. The foregrounds, warm and inviting, while the backgrounds can be dark and foreboding. I have done this before (see my September Morning At Hospitals Reef post or my July 2019 Photo of the Month post).
This is a style that has appealed to me, and it gives me some ideas before the monsoon season begins in the desert. Since I created the series of images early this month, I had to pick one. I asked a few friends. They all selected different images (this was interesting).
In the end, I kept coming back to this one. It’s not dramatically better than the others. Part of the reason I selected LM130 is because I have been looking at this gully/canyon for years and had never created an image I liked of it. That was a plus for me.
2020 is now halfway done! So much has happened this year, that I wish we could fast-forward and be done with it. LM130 will stay with me though. And when I am older and telling people about “that one really difficult year” I can look through some of these photographs to remember a few still moments where I didn’t have to let a pandemic get to me.
