Rest Before Sunset

Photographed: 2013

A seal rests on a La Jolla rock outcropping just as the sun is setting. Seals in La Jolla have been a controversial topic for many years, particularly for their use of the Children’s Pool.

This seal is resting near La Jolla Cove. His or her ancestors enjoyed these nights for millenia before humans hunted and developed nearly every spot they needed to survive.

This seal deserves some peace, good rest, and a good future.

T.M. Schultze is a San Diego-based photographer, traveller, and writer. He writes, photographs, and draws things of the outdoors that have inspired humans for thousands of years. He co-authored the Photographer’s Guide to Joshua Tree Park which can be purchased here.
