My June 2025 Photo of the Month is TS114, taken at the San Diego Tierrasanta’s East Shepherd Canyon Trail.

TS114 Background
June wasn’t a big month for photography. I did a lot of local urban hiking, to try to check off some of the open space preserves and other areas in San Diego.
This photograph was taken off the East Shepherd Canyon trail in Tierrasanta. During marine layer season, we are often overcast in the morning, with the clouds burning off mid-day. One of my favorite moments during these mornings are when the clouds have just started evaporating. In this image, it also lined up very nicely while hiking up canyon.
During the “June Gloom” season, early morning hiking is great, and even a hike of several miles can be finished before the sun comes out and it gets a lot warmer. This weather will make another return in October, when I look to do more hiking and the temperatures are back to where I prefer.
The Shepherd Canyon are has three different areas, East, West, and North, so this is only one of those trail systems.
There are still many of these pocket canyons and nature preserves to explore in San Diego, but with Summer weather coming, that may need to wait a bit.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed the image.
