My July 2023 Photo of the Month is WND135, taken during a nice morning at La Jolla’s Windansea Beach.

The unusually cool 2023 in San Diego is over. I also consider the coastal areas in the afternoon and evening to be “No Go” territory as the crowds are too much. So the compromise I made in July was to head to the beach in the morning.
Windansea Beach is always attractive because of the rocks, reefs, and nice surf. The morning didn’t disappoint, even with a relatively high tide. For such a nice area, it is nice to have some solitude here, knowing what this place will look like in about 8 hours. I was surrounded by a lady reading a book sitting on one rock, and a guy who was quietly meditating on another outcropping. These are my people.
It is also quite enjoyable to get out here with my daughter, who has herself a pink digital Nikon as well as a Fuji Instax that he enjoys using. She also was happily willing to help me with my setup, including getting my neutral density filter and lens changes.
As I have done before, my favorite processing of images like these are to create a darker sky and a warmer foreground. The surf came in with many variations, but I wanted a chance to get some surf with plenty of sand in the shot.
For a long, stressful, and warm July, this bought a little quiet and peace to close the month out. Next, we head into August, and I am sure more heat is to come. Until then, onward.
