My August Photo of the Month is LM915, taken of a beautiful sunset in San Diego County’s Laguna Mountains.

It’s been some time since I shot a proper sunset. Late in August, after some unseasonably mild temperatures (and some delightfully cool mornings), the Summer heat swept in. This time, we got some of our own monsoonal conditions in East San Diego County.
This was a quick decision when friend and reader Alex pointed out the weather conditions and I provided the exact time I could get out of work to head to the Lagunas.
We missed the early cumulonimbus cloud build-up, and we apparently missed the heaviest rains by a few hours. We did have some nice cloud cover, and as we were deciding how to finish the evening, Alex suggested Foster Point, and that was easy for me to say yes.
Conditions were a bit hazy in the desert, likely due to high winds associated with the windy weather. On Laguna Crest, it was actually pretty nice and not too windy.
Foster Point remains one of my favorite spots in all of San Diego County. The view of very picturesque Garnet Peak, with another of my muses, Granite Mountain, behind it, is a beautiful backdrop.
Monsoonal conditions out our way remain very temperamental. Some years, we get a lot of great weather, and some, the entire Summer passes with nothing. It was nice to have a few days to enjoy the storms.
As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed the image.
