The original bridge dates to about 1915 and carried the original Bankhead Highway traffic over the San Diego-Arizona Eastern railway which runs from Plaster City to Tecate, Mexico.
That bridge was replaced in 1931 by the current bridge. The Eastern retaining wall of the original highway was maintained and carries traffic, but a new retaining wall was built on the Western side that bypasses the stretch of original concrete I am standing on in this photograph.

This small road pre-dates Route 80 and possibly Bankhead Highway as well. This section is in a small area South of Descanso called Los Terrinitos. The road to the left is a cutoff that connects between present day Highway 79 and Wildwood Glen Lane, which was Route 80. This connector is now private property.
