My February 2024 Photo of the Month is SD366, photographed at Hospitals Reef in La Jolla.

SD366 Background
I don’t love photography as much as I used to, but I still haven’t had a month where the Photo of the Month streak was broken, now at 132 weeks (11 years).
That being said, I have myself involved in 87 different hobbies and projects, an issue I plan to write about at a later time (blogging being one of those hobbies…).
February was 29 days of contrast, from heavy rains to the challenges of 75 degree Winter weather and stifling the urge to brag to your co-workers across the country in much more inclement climates. A lot of “Yes, this is why I live here! It’s worth the cost!” went around.
But I did get out quite a bit. I hiked in Joshua Tree for a couple days, including the entire Boy Scout Trail from start to finish. In addition, hiked to Shepherd Point in Mission Trails Regional Park, a point I had overlooked for a long time. I tried to photograph the San Diego River from my favorite spot in Santee, only to see that the area was flooded. I went to Windansea and fell, thinking I had broken my hand, which has turned out to only be a painful bruise. And of course…I went to La Jolla.
SD366 was taken during an early morning outing to Hospitals Reef in La Jolla with friend and colleague, Alexander S. Kunz. It took some willpower to get up earlier on the weekend than I do during the work week, but knowing that somebody was meeting me at Coast Blvd. was enough to motivate me to actually wake up.
This channel is a favorite spot to many, and far too crowded in the afternoon/evening. Last time I was here was with a Photo Club outing that was too crowded and had one of my least favorite people in photography flying a drone 5 feet over people’s heads, and I left out of frustration. But this morning, it was quiet. We didn’t get the cloud cover we wanted for good morning front-lit images. But, this pre-dawn photo taken using my favored Breakthrough Neutral Density filter gave me a good long exposure that I liked.
So that is all. Another month goes by.
As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed the image.
