East County is a bit of a misnomer, because what people refer to San Diego’s “East County” is the far 85% of the width of the County. Still, the rural beauty of this part of San Diego County is missed by many people, including the locals who have spent their lives here.
San Diego’s East County is highlighted by the Laguna Mountains and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. These places range from over 6,000 feet to near sea level, and in fact, parts of the low desert were in fact an inland sea in the not-so-distant past.
Having lived in San Diego for nearly 25 years, these places are in my backyard and are an important part of my being. People come to San Diego to see the beaches, mild weather, and the tourist resorts of the coast. But you will find me out in the East, enjoying a quieter locate. I hope you enjoy this Gallery of this overlooked landscape.
