Spanish Peaks From La Veta Overlook
Location: La Veta Overlook off US Route 160
With Summer monsoonal weather like this, it seems impossible to make a great image. The Spanish Peaks dominate the scenery of Southern Colorado, and they appear as dominant sentinels to the South from US Route 160. I was on my way to Great Sand Dunes National Park, but I knew I wanted to find a great place to make an image.
Many landscape photographers shy away from images with signs of humanity, but I thought the buildings below were fine. La Veta sits to the North of the Spanish Peaks and some of the buildings in the bottom of the image are on the outskirts of town.
I would like to make some closer images with the peaks appearing larger in the frame, but there is a lot of private property in the way. Some research will help in coming years!
