Location: Eastern San Diego County
Round Mountain is one of the few peaks in San Diego County with a volcanic origin. It is a distinct and beautiful peak located North of Jacumba near the Carrizo Gorge before Interstate 8 winds its way through Mountain Springs and Myer Creek and Devils Canyon into the Imperial Valley.
I visit this area of Eastern San Diego County often, but I rarely encounter good cloud cover or a clearing storm. Those few times I pull over immediately.
It is also a non-contiguous part of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and has an American flag at the top. The San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway runs at the foot of the mountain. The famous Goat Canyon Trestle is located several miles north in the Carrizo Gorge.
This image was made late in the morning in November as a storm was clearing.
