Ocean to Ocean Bridge, TwilightPhotographed: 2016
Location: Yuma, Arizona
This bridge linked vehicular traffic between California and Arizona. When it opened, it was the only vehicular crossing of the Colorado River for 1,200 miles. If you were travelling from the East Coast to the West Coast, you had to veer South as much as 1,500 miles out of your way to use this bridge.
This image was taken before sunrise from Yuma's Gateway Park. There are now a total of 4 bridges that would be considered part of the Gateway: The original Ocean to Ocean bridge, a matching span for railroad traffic, the 4th Avenue bridge into Yuma that was Old Highway 80, and the final span of Interstate 8 over the Colorado River.
